Portugal’s national broadcaster, RTP, has produced a gorgeous documentary about Luís Onofre. It celebrates the success of the brand, especially on an international stage, and of the man behind it. You’ll get a glimpse of what made him into the design powerhouse and entrepreneur he is today.
If you speak Portuguese, the documentary is free to watch on RTP Play, and you can find it right here.
Luis Onofre: An Artist First
Perhaps what distinguishes Luis Onofre’s designs is his penchant for artistry. Detailing his process, Luis says:
“I always carry a notebook with me to jot out ideas. I have to write everything down.” Luís Onofre
As you see the way Luís Onofre draws pieces, an assured hand sketches silhouettes by hand with masterful schematics. With a glimpse into the mind of an artist, you understand a part of his biography. First and foremost: he is an artist.
At a young age, he dreamt of a career as an interior designer, or a fashion designer.
Shoes were what fate held for a young Luís Onofre, and his creative flair found the perfect outlet in an area that was maybe unexpected. While concerned with comfort, Onofre has developed a unique and distinctive style.

Our healthcare workers are fighting this disease in the frontlines. They are taking care of the ill, saving lives, protecting our communities.
The Luís Onofre family could never stand idly by while health and support professionals are putting their lives and the lives of their family members at risk.
This is why, following the example of Vitorino Coelho, we have retooled our production facilities, and are now producing non-surgical masks, as many as we possibly can to support personal in these institutions.
We are currently producing 400 to 500 support masks a day, and we intend to up those numbers to 800 by the end of the week.

There’s an old Mr. Rogers quote that always comes up in times of crisis: «When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me: “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”»
This crisis affects all of us. We all need to be the helpers. We are committed to doing our part.
