The man behind the brand
Luís Onofre was born in the early 70s. He grew up wearing leather shoes thanks to his grandfather, who in 1933 founded a small shoe factory in Oliveira de Azeméis, a small town in Portugal’s Aveiro district. His grandmother, Conceição Rosa Pereira, would take over the company after her husband’s passing in 1939, and she would help raise a man who wanted to be an architect.
“I never wanted shoes. Never even considered it. I was studying design in São João da Madeira, and, honestly, I was tired of it. I designed my first shoe and we made it at the factory. When I saw that first shoe being made, that’s when I radically changed my mind.”
The year was 1993. Since then, Onofre has become an international brand, synonymous with luxury. It has gained the trust and patronage of some of the world’s most famous women, from Michelle Obama to Princess Letizia of Spain.
Perfect shoes need elite components. Onofre relies exclusively on the finest names in raw material sourcing. Once they have been produced and selected, the materials arrive at the state of the art Onofre workshop in northern Portugal. After crafting and inspection the shoe is one step closer to you.
Quality assurance is held-up as perhaps Onofre’s most important business operation. Each produced piece (every single one, there is no sampling) is manually inspected by our people. The next step is the delicate packing and delivery process. A shoe is born, the shoe fits, wear it with pride.
